Leader Cooperation (2022-2023)
The Connecting Biodiversity project aims to promote the implementation of the Galician Green Infrastructure Strategy, developing environmental improvement actions and designing future projects that contribute to strengthening ecological connectivity in the participating LAG territories.
Cooperation between Local Action Groups (LAGs) has proven to be an effective channel for exchanging experiences, transferring knowledge, and amplifying successful actions in certain territories. This project is justified by the outstanding environmental values of the participating LAGs, as well as the need to meet the conservation and biodiversity objectives established in European and Galician strategies. Through this cooperation, the aim is to solve common problems, promote innovation, and implement measures to protect and restore threatened habitats and species.
Project objectives:
- Develop specific actions for environmental improvement, ecological connectivity, and agricultural biodiversity in various municipalities of the participating LAGs.
- Design technical projects for future execution, in collaboration with administrations and other agents, resulting in a qualitative improvement of ecological connectivity.
- Publish and make known to society what Green Infrastructure is, the specific actions of the project, and its contribution to improving people's quality of life.
- Actions to improve ecological connectivity: Each LAG carried out actions in its territory to improve ecological connectivity and the environment: the restoration of abandoned infrastructure as useful refuge for fauna, the improvement of biodiversity, and in agricultural farms, the elimination and control of invasive species.
- Design of connectivity improvement projects: The LAGs contracted external advice to design projects that identified the actions/steps to follow to improve green infrastructure and ecological connectivity.
- Information and communication actions: Dissemination of the project through social networks, media, and creation of promotional materials for on-the-ground activities, with the aim of making visible the benefits of implementing a Green Infrastructure Strategy for society.
